Winter Wonder Games
Excitement is already building for our upcoming Winter Wonder Games — especially with the chance for participating students to win our ultimate, fun-filled prize: becoming Principal for the Day! The lucky student will get to step into the Principal’s shoes, make special announcements, visit classes, and experience all the fun and responsibility that comes with running the school for a day!
This event is being run in conjunction with our School Council, who have worked incredibly hard to organize a day full of fun, prizes, and opportunities for all students. Our Winter Wonder Games is inclusive and designed for all students to participate, much like our Dance-a-thon, and we wanted to take a moment to share a bit more clarity around the fundraiser portion of the day.
Participation in the Winter Wonder Games is open to all students, and no student will ever be excluded based on ability to donate. Our intention is for this to be a joyful day filled with games, laughter, and school spirit for everyone. The suggested $20 all-access amount is meant to be a voluntary family donation, and we warmly welcome donations of any amount — or simply participation and encouragement.
To add to the excitement, students will have many opportunities to win prizes throughout the day! In addition:
All participating students’ names will be entered into a draw to become the fabulous Principal for the Day, where they’ll get to make announcements, visit classrooms, and enjoy the fun of being in charge for a day!
The top three classes with the highest total donations will earn a pizza party or ice cream party of their choice
A snack bar will be available for students to purchase treats throughout the day, and every student will receive one snack free of charge as part of the fundraiser (a bag of chips or a chocolate bar)
📚 Makwendam Family Book Club – Starting Thursday, January 22nd! 📚
Join us Thursday, January 22nd at 6:30 p.m. in the library for the launch of our Makwendam Family Book Club! This winter, we’ll be exploring The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt, a thought‑provoking book about the challenges today’s youth face and how we, as families and a community, can support their well‑being.
Books were distributed before the holidays, so we hope everyone has had a chance to get started. For our first session, we’ll focus on Section 1, and we invite you to share any thoughts or questions you’d like to discuss—please send them to Ms. Caruso before the book club begins.
This is a relaxed, friendly space to share perspectives, discuss ideas, and gather practical strategies to help our children thrive. The club will continue through January and February, and all Makwendam families are welcome!
